Wyllie, W.L. (Illustrator); Allen, Grant - 'The Tidal Thames'.
Cassell & Co., London. First and only edition. Not dated (but 1884). The first and most sought after book illustrated by Wyllie. Was published originally in 5 separate divisions as shown and later bound together in 1 volume. Both are very hard to find, this 5-division set being extremely scarce. Each division contains 4 very fine full-page photogravure plates printed on India paper together with descriptive letterpress and text (a total of 20 fine plates). Each division is bound in the original pictorial cloth-backed terracotta boards.
This is an unusually fine set. Indeed, the best set we have seen in 25 years. These large format books measuring 448 x 348mm were supplied to subscribers only and are very difficult to find in any condition. This is a rare opportunity to purchase Wyllie's most sought-after work. One of the plates ('A Corinthian Yacht Race') is shown above.
