Louis Icart was born in Toulouse in 1890 and moved to Paris in 1907 towards the end of the belle epoque where he began studies in painting, drawing and printmaking. He would become known for elegant and glamorous female portraits that characterise the Paris of the 1920s and 1930s, being heavily influenced by the art deco movement as well as earlier impressionist and symbolist artists. He died in Paris in 1950.
