Extremely atmospheric depictions of the harbour during the Victorian period, during which time HMS Victory was moored close to the Gosport side. The chain ferry is shown in both watercolours, at the Gosport landing stage and mid-harbour.
Frederick Miller was a Sussex marine artist living in West Brighton (1880), Burgess Hill (1882) and Haywards Heath (1884). He exhibited at the Walker Gallery, Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours.
