Martin Snape was a close friend of Edward Prideaux-Brune, the rector of Rowner Church from 1884-1919. The Prideaux-Brunes were a wealthy family with connections back to the Norman conquest. Edward Prideaux-Brune was the nearest to a patron that Martin Snape ever had and probably helped finance his occasional painting trips to Scotland, Wales, The Lake District and France.
