Sun setting over Gosport
watercolour, signed and dated 1926
Framed and glazed
Overall size including frame: 42.2 cm x 56.2 cm
An atmospheric watercolour depicting a setting sun over the Gosport shoreline, with the campanile of Holy Trinity Church in the centre behind the tall masts of yachts stored by Camper & Nicholsons in their yard at Beach Street. Further to the right can be seen the outline of Gosport Market House which was demolished after the war. The Gosport ferry in the foreground was one of a number of launches built for the company between the 1880s and the 1960s, the design remained largely unchanged during this period.
