Charles Eddowes Turner was born on 14th September 1883. He specialised in marine paintings in both watercolours and oils, exhibiting at the Royal Academy in London as well as in Manchester and Liverpool. In World War II he worked as an official war artist, and many of his paintings are held by the National Maritime Museum and the Imperial War Museum in London.
He also provided illustrations for the Illustrated London News and the Sphere magazine and was commissioned to paint images of the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth for Cunard.
