Born in Workington, Cumbria at the end of the 19th century, Albert Rosser was largely self-taught. He was never prolific and continued to work in a number of jobs including as a steelworker and clerk. He painted scenes in and around the Lake District and was much loved by those who knew him as a genial and self-effacing man who gave away as many pictures as he sold.
