Lieut-Commander Hugh Knollys had an eventful war, the highlights include being awarded the DSC for navigating a flotilla of minesweepers on D-Day, and being heavily involved in the last British destroyer action of the war in which the Japanese cruiser Haguro was sunk. After the war his appointments included the carrier Vengeance and the Royal Yacht Britannia.
After working as a designed for the Chichester Press for 11 years, he became a successful freelance artist specialising in marine art and children's portraits.
