John Hall Thorpe, invariably known as Hall Thorpe, was an Australian artist who achieved considerable success in England with his decorative prints of flowers, fruit and landscapes. Born on 29th April 1874, he learned the craft of wood block engraving as an apprentice on John Fairfax's Sydney Mail from 1891. He exhibited at the Royal Academy's Colonial Exhibition in 1906. After moving to London he continued his studies at the Goldsmith College in the 1920s.
